Pharmacies & Medical Supplies
The two main pharmacy chains are Fybeca and Pharmacys (Cruz Azul). Both have locations throughout El Vergel and Centro Histórico. Most branches open late (until 9–10 PM); some operate 24 hours. Many medications that require a prescription in the US or Europe are available over the counter in Ecuador.

If you need a regular medication filled locally, visit a private clinic first to get a local prescription.
Common Mistakes
Running out of prescription medications. Bring a buffer supply.
Paying branded prices without asking for the generic. El genérico, por favor is the most cost-effective phrase in a pharmacy.
Self-medicating with antibiotics without a consultation. Over-the-counter availability does not mean it is always the right approach.
